Tune your bass straight from your browser with the microphone, free and with nothing to install. Standard tuning on a four-string bass is E-A-D-G: the same notes as the four lowest strings of a guitar, but one octave lower. If you play in Drop D, Drop C or a half-step down, pick it in the selector.
How to use it
Same as with the guitar: choose the tuning, allow microphone access and play an open string. On bass it helps to pluck firmly and wait a moment, because low notes take a little longer to settle and the tuner needs that instant to read them cleanly.
Bass tunings
- Standard 4-string (E-A-D-G) — Standard four-string bass tuning is E-A-D-G, the same notes as the four low strings of a guitar but an octave lower
- Drop D (D-A-D-G) — Drop D on bass lowers the lowest string from E to D, giving D-A-D-G
- Half-step down (Eb-Ab-Db-Gb) — It is standard bass tuning lowered by a semitone: Eb-Ab-Db-Gb
- Standard D tuning (D-G-C-F) — D standard lowers every string a whole tone from normal tuning, giving D-G-C-F
- Drop C (C-G-C-F) — Drop C on bass is the equivalent of tuning down a whole tone and then dropping the lowest string, giving C-G-C-F
- Drop B (B-F#-B-E) — Drop B leaves the bass at B-F#-B-E, a very low tuning sitting a tone and a half below standard with the lowest string dropped

- 5-string standard (B-E-A-D-G) — The standard five-string bass adds a B string below the E, giving B-E-A-D-G
- 6-string standard (B-E-A-D-G-C) — The standard six-string bass extends the instrument at both ends: B-E-A-D-G-C
- Tenor bass (A-D-G-C) — Tenor tuning raises the bass to A-D-G-C, a fourth above standard E-A-D-G
- Piccolo bass (E-A-D-G high octave) — Piccolo bass keeps the standard notes, E-A-D-G, but a full octave higher
- Traditional upright bass (E-A-D-G) — The traditional double bass is tuned E-A-D-G, the same notes and in the same octave as the electric bass
- Fifths tuning (C-G-D-A) — Fifths tuning leaves the bass at C-G-D-A, the same notes and layout as a cello
- Drop A (A-E-A-D) — Drop A leaves the bass at A-E-A-D, a very low tuning that lowers the strings and sinks the lowest to a deep A
