All tunings

All the tunings you can use with this tuner, sorted by instrument. Each one has its own page with the notes string by string, how to get there from standard tuning, what it is for and what is played in it. They all work through the microphone, with nothing to install.

If you are not sure which one you need, start with your instrument's standard tuning: it is the reference, and every other tuning makes sense as a variation of it. Open tunings (Open D, Open G, Open C) form a chord on the open strings and are the ones for slide and blues; drop tunings lower only the lowest string for a heavier attack; and modal tunings like DADGAD open up a resonant sound that is neither major nor minor.

Guitar tuning

Guitar tuner

11 documented tunings, from standard to the open and modal ones. It is the instrument with the most variants: Drop D and Double Drop D, DADGAD and the Celtic CGDGAD, the four Open tunings (D, E, G, C), the half-step-down and a few more, each with the notes string by string, its songs and gauge advice.

Bass tuning

Bass tuner

The usual tunings for the four-string electric bass: standard, the low ones for metal (Drop C, Drop D), the D tuning and the half-step-down. The strings are thick and low in frequency, hard to tune by ear, so each page gives the exact frequency of every string.

Ukulele tuning

Ukulele tuner

The classic re-entrant tuning in G-C-E-A and its variants, including the D tuning, the Hawaiian one and an Open C. It explains the differences between tunings that sound similar but are not the same, so you do not pick the wrong one.
