Bass tuning
6-string standard (B-E-A-D-G-C)
The standard six-string bass extends the instrument at both ends: B-E-A-D-G-C. It adds a low B below the E and a high C above the G, all in perfect fourths.

How it sounds
It is the tuning for bassists after maximum range without changing instruments: chords, high-register soloing and deep lows, all on one neck. Very common in fusion and modern jazz.

Recommended string gauges
You need a full six-string set (around 0.030-0.130) balancing the high C and low B. The thin C is delicate: too much tension and it breaks, too little and it sounds dull.
Tuning tip
Use the high C string for chords and melodies in a register that on a four-string would force you far up the neck: that is where the six-string really shines.
