Bass tuning
Standard D tuning (D-G-C-F)
D standard lowers every string a whole tone from normal tuning, giving D-G-C-F. It keeps the same fourths relationship, so everything you know still applies, one tone lower.

Recommended string gauges
Dropping a whole tone slackens the strings noticeably; a 0.050-0.110 or even 0.055-0.115 set keeps the definition and stops the low end sounding loose or buzzing.
Tuning tip
If the strings feel too soft dropped a tone, do not fight it: go up in gauge. A heavier set is what restores tension and clarity of attack.
