How it sounds
The body and scale of the tenor make the most of the low G: it sounds full, sustained and balanced, with a wide range well suited to fingerstyle and melodic arrangements. It is one of the favourite combinations for soloists.
Styles and genres
Recommended string gauges
Fit a tenor set with a Low G fourth string (wound or heavy gauge). The longer scale of the tenor helps that low G have good tension and definition.
Tuning tip
If you are unsure between reentrant and linear on a tenor, linear with a low G is usually the better choice for playing melodies and solos, where the extra register makes the difference.
